Henriette Browne

Henriette Browne (1829-1901) is one of those painters whose works are generally pretty average in my view. But there are one or two that really capture my imagination and the above is one of those.

'Henriette Browne' was the pseudonym of Mme Jules de Saulx, née Sophie Boutellier, a French painter and etcher. She was born in Paris and studied under Penn and Chaplin. She exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1853, at the Royal Academy 1871-9.

She painted and engraved many religious subjects taken from the Bible, Near-Eastern subjects and genre scenes. She gave up exhibiting some twenty years before her death. She died in Paris.

  3. Love the one with the little girl and the bird. Makes your imagination run in all directions as to her thoughts.
