From the Ground

“What day is it?”

That is often my cry nowadays.   Not going into work and having Partner-who-loves-tea teaching every Saturday and Sunday it is hard to keep track.  The side margin of the Friday My Town Shoot Out Blog did its best to confuse me today by listing

May 25: From the Ground Interpret as you like.
I checked the bottom right corner of my computer – it read 04:44 24/05/2013.  OK, so it’s the 24th (assuming I believe the computer).  Now to establish if it is Friday as my brain suggests it is.  Checks memory vaults and thinks, yes I saw a few minutes of the First Practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix on TV yesterday.  Wait a minute – practice sessions always begin on a Friday.  Now I’m getting really confused.  But I saw one yesterday.  So the 24th must be Saturday.  What happened to Friday?  Oh yes, Monaco is the exception to the Rule and has First and Second Practice on a Thursday for some reason.  So yesterday was Thursday.  So today is Friday.  So I’d better get on with it….
How ironic – I wrote that paragraph yesterday and have ended up not publishing it until today – May 25th - Saturday (I think!).

Friday My Town Shoot Out - From the Ground

The above were taken on the Isles of Lewis and Harris -

The following were on the Lleyn Peninsula, North Wales.

  3. John, I LOVE these pictures - all of them, but the ones with the grass and flowers are the most beautiful ones, and the ones with the mushrooms are magic!
Years ago, I took a picture laying flat on my tummy along the verge of a grassy field; it even made it onto my blog and is the first picture on this post:

As for the day of the week: it is Saturday today. I know, because I am not going to work today, but instead will be cleaning and doing the laundry and some groceries shopping - all regular Saturday tasks :-)

  4. wow, the field of wild flowers. I would love to lie on the ground, hands and legs apart, and breath in the perfume.

Then I will grab a basket and pick the mushrooms. (hopefully they are not toadstools)

  7. "Have no fear CJ, grab hold of this paddle and jump into the canoe with me...we can navigate the waters of this short gap memory thing together."
I forget what day it is on a regular basis...maybe as a result of being retired.
Sometimes if a particular ship isn't docked in the harbour I may not know what day it is....hahaha. Sometimes too, I end up missing out on on some of my favourite tv programs this way.
I'm too happy to worry about it, at least I know what side of my bed to get up every day.

  12. Great shots in a lovely landscape. The flowers are pretty but I really love those mushrooms, all of them. Are those mushrooms in the last picture as well?

  13. So, so lovely! Though now I've seen all those mushrooms I'm hungry. 8-)

  14. John, they are all lovely. You really do go to great lengths to get "the" shot. I think my favourite is the first mushroom although the Welsh fungus is pretty impressive!

  17. The last ones - the Shaggy Ink Caps - are edible until they start to deliquesce (i.e. decompose into ink - hence the name).
The red ones with white spots are Fly Agaric. Definitely not to be eaten. They are semi-poisonous. i.e. they are unlikely to kill you but will make you go berserk. They are supposed to be what the Vikings used to eat before going into battle!

  18. How did I miss this post? I love the mushroom shots! So beautiful..the red topped ones look amazing. I find some interesting shrooms under the pine trees and in our woods. I did a post once about them. All the flowers say "Spring" in a big way. Have a good weekend...when Friday arrives...unless it's Saturday...never mind!

  19. Love the photos of Lewis and Harris. I am in the midst of vol. 3 of Peter May's Fin Macleod series, and am enjoying them very much. I also have been poring over calendar photos and maps -- The island looks so lovely in your photos. Hugs, Carol

  20. Today is Thursday, the 6th of June...just in case you need to be reminded!! :-)
Hope you are doing well these days, I loved these photos. Makes me want to visit the Isle of Lewis!!

  21. British wild flowers. They have no equal. I have never seen a Fly Agaric in the flesh so to speak. They were always in the pictures in fairy tale books. You might want to think twice about sampling the shaggy ink caps, because from what I remember there is another fungi that looks very similar but is deadly poisonous.
