R.I.P.

We have had three laptops die so far this year...

  1. The natural question arising from this high mortality rate is: What do you do with (or to) your laptops)?
Of course, another question could be, what make were they?

  2. Don't you just want to pack them pack them up and then hurl them onto the polished marble lobby floor of some computer giant?!

    1. I have a feeling it should be the floor of some software giant! Can I do it from the tenth floor please?

  3. Sorry to hear that. I've never had one die. To lose three in two months is terrible bad luck.

    1. In fairness, only one died. Two were killed. I am taking the words of P-w-l-t and S-w-w-f that in both cases it was laptopslaughter not murder.

  5. I have been reading Bill Bryson's new book, "The Road to Little Dribbling" and would like to share the following from the beginning of chapter 17 (p. 239):

I recently bought a new laptop. It came loaded with some software -- I think it is called Microsoft Gestapo -- that lets them enter the computer at any time of day or night, line everyone up against the wall, and install some new software. I don't know what this new software does or why they didn't think to put it in in the factory, but it sure is important to them to get it in there now. About every second time I fire up the computer, I get a message that says "Updates are ready for your computer. Would you like to install now (now is recommended) or be reminded every fifteen minutes for the rest of eternity?"

At first he tried to ignore them, shut down and reboot, but the next message said,

"Resuming installation process. Do not ever try anything like that again. Remember: we know that you spent a whole afternoon on March 10 watching Paris Hilton home videos. We'll tell your wife. We're Microsoft. Don't fuck with us. Download will be complete in 14 hours."

So now, he just gives up and waits it out! I think the machines are taking over the world! xoxox Carol

    1. My TV does that now too, since I got a "smart" one... (insists on installing updates when I'm least expecting it, I mean)...

    2. My television shows when someone is calling the house phone! Which makes me laugh like an evil genius, because we don't use our house phone except for outgoing calls, so all our ringers are turned off. HA! Revenge is sweet. Take that, you sales callers! No answering machine, either. On their end it just rings, and rings, and rinnnnnnngggggggsssss.....

  6. Isn't it amazing? It seems also that when one appliance dies, another does so in sympathy. Same with cars breaking down.

  7. Wow three laptops in one year, that must be a record.
So sorry for you, hope you find new ones soon.
I'm with messymimi above, whenever one gadget dies there are always a few more that give up the ghost as well...mine comes in threes.
